Menopause happens when there is a decrease in the production of estrogen. This usually occurs when a woman turns 50 or so. Because of the changes in her hormones, she usually experiences discomfort like mood swings and hot flashes. While there are women who go through this without problems, there
are also those who find it difficult during these trying times. We are all different ladies.
No woman can ever escape menopause. Unfortunately, this change in her life can affect the people close to her. She can get too cranky one minute and then feel sick the next. Watching my mom go through this was unbearable. In fact, there are times when I feel like I cannot live with her anymore.
However, there are many things you can do to make her and your life easier. Just follow the simple tips here to help you get by:
1.Recognize the signs and symptoms. In knowing the signs, you become more vigilant and sensitive to your mom (or significant other or other females). In turn, this will help you prepare of what is to come.
The symptoms include hot flashes, depression, decreased libido, sleeping disorder, sore joints, mood swings, weight gain, change in memory, change in vaginal and bladder health, and changes in menstrual periods. If you notice any of these signs, your female companion must be experiencing menopause.
2.Talking is good. Talk to her.Connect with her but do it in a positive manner. Listen to what she has to say. Let her open up about her feelings and what she is going through. The changes in her life are not easy so she needs a strong support system to hang on to. Let her feel that you care to ease her suffering. Offer your sympathetic ear anytime she needs it.
Talk to her but never ever make fun of her situation. She is already going through a lot and she does not need any mockery or insults.
3.Accompany her to a specialist. This is no easy thing to handle so she will need all the help she can get, most especially from a specialist. Her specialist can assist her during this trying time. This specialist can even prescribe medicine or suggest means to help her get through this. You should also learn as much as possible from these sessions so you can help her even more.
4.Show your support. Deciding about this will be difficult. Support her in her decisions and let her know about her options through the sessions you have gone to.
5.Boost her confidence. Let her feel that she is the most beautiful woman in the world. Believe it or not, this really helped my mom significantly. You will be surprised with the effects these simple words make. It made her feel less depressed and anxious. For the husbands out there, don’t just tell it. Show it! Send her flowers or help her wash the dishes. Even helping with these simple little chores can make her day.
6.Be tolerant. She may go through mood swings, weight gain, sleeping disorders, and more so understand how she feels. She may complain about many things so don’t take it personally. Remember that it’s the menopause talking.
Help her the best way you can. For example, you can create a list for her so she will not forget about the things she has to do (or buy). Take her to the gym or go exercise with her. Help her relax. You can even ask other women who have gone through menopause to talk to her. All these will certainly help her feel better about herself.
It is no walk in the park. Menopause is difficult but she can go through it well when she has people who understand and support her. Remember the tips in this post and take care of her at the same time.<
Good luck and I hope that things get better for her and for you.
